So many bowl games its hard to tell the new ones from the recycled ones.
DXL Frisco Bowl - SMU vs. Louisiana Tech
This game falls into the recycled category, as it was the Miami Beach Bowl for a couple years then bought out by ESPN and moved to suburban Dallas. Maybe they'll move it to whatever city has a team in the game.
A good sized crowd turned out to see local team SMU although they wouldn't stay for the second half. The Mustangs started the game with a turnover, and just kept turning it over. Should have changed it from the Frisco Bowl to the Fiasco Bowl - bada boom.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs turned a couple interceptions into pick six scores and scored on the other turnovers. This was over after the first quarter. I watched all the first half as I was gift wrapping presents, my least favorite holiday task. I only lost the scissors once and tape twice. Pretty solid night.
Check out the size of that one, and you can see the Frisco Bowl on the TV, proof I watch this junk.
The highlight of the game was turning it off to watch Wofford beat North Carolina at the Dean Dome.
La. Tech 51 SMU 10
My pick: SMU, was expecting a shootout, record now 3-4.
What did I eat: A couple tacos I made with some leftover pork roast. Not great, not terrible.
Bowl swag: Gift suite, Fossil watch.
Fun fact: A game that wasn't much fun, and a rough night for new SMU head coach Sonny Dykes who took the job nine days before the game. BowlQuest tip - don't coach a team nine days after taking the job. Also don't have a grad assistant calling plays. But here's one, Sonny's dad Spike Dykes is the second all-time winningest coach in Texas Tech history. The winningest coach in Texas Tech history? Mike Leach, who was fired from that job in 2009 after putting a player in a shed as punishment.
